Helen Wynelle Arrington Hiers, age 98, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in Marietta, Georgia. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 1PM in Moultrie at the Westview Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Julian Griner and Fr. Ben Day.
A native of GA, Mrs. Hiers lived most of her adult life in Moultrie. But having battled an illness for several years she had asked to move closer to her daughter in Marietta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kleeman Hiers, an infant daughter, Kleema Kay Hiers, her parents, Jesse and Ola Arrington, a brother, Charles Arrington, and a sister, Mattye A. Corbett.
Nell was a remarkable woman, not only for her 98 years of life, but for how she lived those years. She was a loving, giving person. She loved her family! She loved her parents, her husband, her daughter, as well as nieces and nephews. And even after the loss of their daughter, Kleema Kay, Nell and Kleeman gave their love fostering several children while in Europe.
She loved her friends, she loved children - little ones especially. Nell was always ready to give. She remembered birthdays and Christmas with special gifts, but even more she gave of herself. Nell opened her heart to all and welcomed them there. And she was always proud to share the accomplishments of those she loved. She took pride in graduations, marriages, births, jobs, and always generously shared those proud moments with her friends and family.
Most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church until early 1970 when she became an active and serving member of The First Baptist Church of Moultrie. She volunteered at the Colquitt Regional Hospital for many years and was honored for her service; loved for her generosity and laughter.
She was and is greatly loved, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathi H. Johnson of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Martha Neill, Sacramento, CA, Jane Arrington, Blowing Rock, NC, Penn Corbett, Chapel Hill, NC, Chris Elswick, Grundy, VA, and Jesse Corbett, Winnabow, NC. Survivors also include several great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
