William Ronny Holmes, age 74, of Dallas, Georgia passed away January 27, 2023. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 30, 2023 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta, Georgia.
Ronny was born on December 8, 1948, in Atlanta GA. He was the youngest of six children to William Henry and Annie Odessa Holmes. He is preceded in death by his parents and all but one of his siblings including Virginia Reynolds, Walter Holmes, Jack Holmes, and Barbara Payne. Ronny was also preceded in death by his son Timothy Barrett Holmes. He is survived by his wife, Cindy (whom he was married to for almost 37 years), his children Matt Holmes, Allison (and Chris) Chapman, and Alivia Brown; one sister, Charlotte Bissell; his grandchildren, Morgan & Emmett, and lots of nieces and nephews.
Ronny graduated from Pebble Brook High school in 1967 and then went to Atlanta Area Technical School where he earned his Air Conditioning and Refrigeration degree in September 1970.
He was drafted into the army on April 15, 1971, and was discharged after 3.5 months with an honorable medical discharge. He spent most of his career as a Chief Engineer over high-rise office buildings in the Atlanta area and worked for Coca-Cola for 10 years. After he retired from the corporate world, he drove a school bus and played lots of golf.
Growing up, Ronny was a member of Bolton Baptist Church in Atlanta where he was saved and baptized. He served as the choir director of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Powder Springs. He joined and then served faithfully at Macland Baptist church for more than 26 years. He loved his Sunday School class and enjoyed times of fellowship.
I'm sure most of you know all of his favorite things because he was fiercely passionate about everything he was involved in including
• Coaching football and baseball for Powder Springs Park
• Playing golf
• Fishing
• Deer hunting
• His animals, especially Aflac the duck and Sweetie Petey, his cat.
• And "HOW BOUT THEM DAWGS"
For those that don't know, Ronny has suffered from Lewy Body dementia for the past 8 years, a progressive form of dementia that affects movement, thinking skills, mood, memory, and behavior. He hid it well from others for more than 6 of those years and continued to enjoy time with family and friends. Praise God he has been released from this terrible disease. His broken body and mind are now alive — fully cognizant and free of Lewy Body — with Jesus. What a glorious thought!
Our world is a sadder place without Ronny here in earthly form, but we are comforted in our knowledge that Ronny is with Jesus. Ronny touched each one of us and has left us with memories we will cherish forever.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 29, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia and Monday, January 30, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA.
