William Alexander (Bill) Brough, 94, passed away on the 19th of January, 2017, at his home, in Mableton, Georgia. He was born in November, 1922 in Glasgow Scotland to William S. and Mary Gossman Brough. He came to the United States in1926 as young boy and settled with his parents and sister in Detroit, MI. He attended Cass Tech High School in Detroit. Bill was drafted in 1943 and served until 1946 in 2nd Army, HQ Inspection as a small arms repair, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Bill after his military service attended a technical college and studied installation of antennas and related to the television industry in Chicago before returning to Detroit. He worked for Burroughs Corporation as a punch press operator until his retirement in 1987. After moving to Florida he worked at Westminster Presbyterian Church. At age 84, Bill volunteered at the South Cobb County Regional Library until his health declined in 2012. He lived at Delmar Gardens, Smyrna, GA for about a year before his death. Bill passed away at his son’s home from natural causes.
Bill met his wife Lois and married in 1946, raising four children, Bill, Becky, Bob and Beth. Bill was an elder in Dearborn Woods Presbyterian Church, Dearborn, MI., Westminster Presbyterian Church and North Lakeland Presbyterian Church, Lakeland FL and Woodlwan Presbyterian Church, Mableton, GA. He was an avid golfer supporting the Central Florida Junior Tour.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Mary Brough Trudeau and William Simpson Brough, his sister, Mona W. Brough, his wife Lois M. Brough, his son William Michael Brough and his second wife Catherine DeCamp Brough.
Bill is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Keith) Oberrecht of Anchorange, AK, his son Robert (Jane) Brough of Mableton, GA and Beth (Don) Vinsack of Rock Hill, SC; his grandchildren, Shawn (James) Rhoton of Sarasota, FL, Britteney Howell of Anchorage, AK, Eric Howell of TN, Bryant Brough of Mableton, GA; his great granddaughter Alexis Rhoton of Sarasota, FL.
