William Munroe Alexander left his earthly home to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2023. Bill was born in Columbus, GA on June 1, 1938 to parents William Bellamy Alexander and Alice Logan Munroe. He had two older sisters, Abbie Dryden (Harold) of Atlanta and Mary Smitherman (John), late of Mooresville, NC. He was a member of Hurt Road Baptist Church.
Most of his career was spent in asphalt paving, beginning as a teen when he worked for and with his father, CEO at Finley Paving Company, which was sold and later became APAC where he worked for many years, moving several times within the state of Georgia. He tried several other career moves, but retired in 2008 from Butch Thompson Enterprises, Inc. in Kennesaw, GA.
Bill went to Georgia Tech for three years, giving it up when he married and joined the Naval Reserve for ten years. It was during that time that his daughter Mary Benton Alexander (College Park, GA), and his son, Kurt Hildmann Alexander (Woodstock, GA) were born. He was very proud of his children and loved them quietly always.
Bill was a private pilot and owned two single engine planes at one time. Flying was likely his truest love. He also was a crossword puzzle whiz, loved to play his ukelele and was a TV nut! He was extremely intelligent and could talk with anyone on any subject.
Bill met his wife of 46 years, Carol Suttles Quinn, through mutual friends. She survives him and continues to live in their home in Marietta, GA. They travelled extensively in the US and abroad, even South Africa! She also became very involved in his children’s lives, as he did in hers.
Bill’s stepchildren, whom he loved as his own, are Jan Quinn McDaniel (Ricky) of Marietta, GA and Dayna Quinn Gelinas (Gary) of Kennesaw, GA. He had four grandchildren, William Kurt Alexander and Miles Meachan Alexander, J.T. McDaniel and Ali Virginia McDaniel. His love for them was deep and forgiving. He also had many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved.
