Cmd. SGM Wayne Garrett Brown (Ret, USA) age 64, of Austell, GA went to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, October 26, 2018 at Wellstar Tranquility at Cobb after a long battle with pancreatic/liver cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Orange Hill Baptist Church in Austell with Chaplain Spencer Haygood officiating. Cmd. SGM Wayne Garrett Brown (Ret, USA). will lie in state at the church from 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at 1:30pm at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA with military honors.
Wayne is the eldest son of Frank and Margie Brown, born on December 2, 1953 in Douglasville, GA. He was a 1972 graduate of South Cobb High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, where he attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was on active duty during the Vietnam War, Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and the Liberation of Kuwait. During this time, Wayne worked in SIDPERS and the AG office at Fort McPherson before following in his father's footsteps in the construction field.
Wayne was owner of WGB Grading in Austell, GA before retiring due to his illness.
In his free time, Wayne pursued a lifelong passion of fishing and hunting, and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed coaching multiple sports-including his daughter and granddaughter's softball teams. He could always be found on the sidelines, or in the stands, and was the biggest supporter of his grandchildren Kody and Kyleigh in their multiple sporting activities.
Wayne was a past president and lifetime member of the Marietta Jaycee's. He served as a Colonel, and Senator, in the JCI Senate.
Wayne was a lifelong Christian. He was a member, and Deacon, at Orange Hill Baptist Church. He was part of Tres Dias Community and served on several teams.
Finally, anyone that knew Wayne knew he would happily fire up the grill, smoker or fryer, and enjoy time with his family and friends.
