Virginia (Ginny) Stevens of Powder Springs, GA passed away peacefully on April 21, 2023. Ginny was born in Newark, NJ on August 12, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Mary Lenz. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Lithia Springs. Interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery at a later date.
Ginny grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and attended grade school at St. Catherine's in Hillside, NJ before graduating high school at St. Mary of the Assumption in Elizabeth. She was married to the late Joseph Stevens, also of Elizabeth, on October 18, 1958. In 1975, Ginny moved with her family to Austell, GA. She spent nearly 30 years working in the banking business with Georgia State Bank, First Union Bank and Wachovia.
Ginny is pre-deceased by her husband, as well as her brother Tony Lenz. She is survived by her daughter Lynn Mendoza and son in law Regi Mendoza of Powder Springs, GA; her son Deacon Joseph (Rick) Stevens and daughter in law Cathy of Apex, NC; grandson Matthew of Jacksonville, FL, granddaughter Katie (Midgley) of Apex, NC and grandson Trenton Mendoza of Kennesaw, GA.
She was a loving great-grandmother to Katie's children Leah (5) and Hannah (2); also Trent's daughters Riley (7) and Addie (3) as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Ginny was a devoted communicant of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Lithia Springs, GA where she served many ministries including Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, RCIA facilitator, and various office tasks.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Ginny's caregivers over the past 4 years during her struggle with dementia.
