Our beloved mother, Vernie Dixon passed away from this life on Monday, December 4, 2023.
She was the daughter of the late Clyde C. Pace and Dora W. Pace Simpson, sister to the late Maggie Hayes, Kathleen Green, John T. Pace and Stanley Pace of Greenville, SC. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles E. Dixon of Colonels Island, Midway, GA.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Saluda, NC and later her family moved to Travelers Rest, SC where she attended Travelers Rest High School.
She relocated to Savannah, GA in 1967 where she completed her business degree and worked for Savannah Bank and Trust, and then took a position with Colonial Oil Industries where she worked there for 23 years as a receptionist and then later as a purchasing agent.
Vernie loved God, family and friends. She was an advid gardner and a wonderful cook. She loved to entertain, and her door was always open. She loved life and lived it to the fullest and believed that laughter was the best medicine. She had a beautiful smile and a heart of gold. She loved her daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and nieces and nephews and kept in touch with her extended family.
Vernie’s favorite past time was shopping yard sales and estate sales, she had a good eye for beautiful things. She loved sharing her great finds with her daughters, grandchildren and friends.
She was a devout Christian and member of Wilmington Island Baptist Church for 25 years and then when she moved to Midway, GA became a member of Midway Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She loved to sing and had been in a quartet when she was younger. She could yodel and would grace us with her talent many times at parties and just being with family. She was the life of the party and never met a stranger.
Vernie loved her life on Colonels Island with Charlie. She walked every day and would stop to visit and talk with her neighbors. She lived her happiest years on the Island!
She moved to Kennesaw, Ga after her husband passed and made a new home there. She made new friends yet kept in touch with her friends. She wrote to them often. She continued to enjoy life and make the best of any situation. She was a friend to all.
