Thomas Neal Thornton, 66 of Marietta passed away Sunday, September 27, 2015. Services will be 10am Friday, October 2, 2015 in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home with Rev. Leonard Akers officiating. Interment will follow at 12:30 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with Military Honors.
Mr. Thornton was a veteran of the United States Navy and graduated with a BA in German and Economics from Missouri Western State and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Georgia State University. He was employed for 38 years in the Social Security Administration and retired as a Program Leader in the Office of Quality Assurance. Mr. Thornton served as a Boy Scout Leader of Pack 757 since 1993 and felt that his 37 years of sobriety was a gift from God.
He was blessed with an amazing family which include his wife, Peggy Thornton of Marietta; children, Matthew Thomas (Kelley) Thornton of Dallas, Sarah Elizabeth (Joshua) Walker of Dallas and Michael Luke Thornton of Marietta; siblings, Janice Blair, Claire Henderson, Marty Thornton, Bob Thornton all of St. Joseph, MO and Jim Thornton of Tehachapi, CA.; Grandchildren, Brayden Thomas Thornton, Adalynn Grace Thornton, Jordyn Kayla Chang and Ethan Alexander Walker.
