Thomas Wade Smithwick, born on October 2, 1963, in Marietta, Georgia, passed away on October 14,2024, in Smyrna, Georgia. He is remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
For many years, Thomas dedicated his career to East Side Elementary School, where he became a cherished figure among colleagues and students alike. Known for his warm smile and infectious laughter, he brought joy to those around him and left an impact on everyone he encountered. His positive spirit and unwavering kindness made him a beloved member of the school community.
Family was of utmost importance to Thomas, and he especially treasured the time spent with his grandchildren. When he first became a grandfather, a new depth of love unfolded within him, transforming him into the devoted “Boomba” and “Pop Pop” that his grandchildren adored. He cherished every moment spent with Ezra Martin, Eris Johnson, Barrett Smithwick, and Wesson Smithwick, and his love for them was evident in all that he did. Thomas had a particular fondness for the holidays, especially Christmas, dedicating himself to creating magical experiences through elaborate decorations and festivities.
In addition to his warm and loving demeanor, Thomas served his country honorably in the Navy for four years, participating in various battles during his time overseas. His strength and dedication were notable qualities that endeared him to many.
Thomas is survived by his son, Nicholas Smithwick; daughter, Jessica Smithwick; ex-wife and close friend, Darlene Smithwick; sister, Audrey Smithwick; daughter-in-law, Katie Frederick Smithwick; and his four cherished grandchildren. He joins his deceased family members, including his sister Deborah Autry, mother Ventalee Smithwick, and father Ralph Smithwick, in eternal rest.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Thomas’s life during the visitation on October 20, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM at West Cobb Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064.
Thomas Wade Smithwick will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the profound love he shared and the light he brought into the lives of those around him.
