On Monday, February 7th, 2022, our beloved Teretha “T” Myers was called home by our Lord and Savior at the age of 86, at Christian City Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Union City, Georgia. Teretha was born on September 22, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois born to Hilton and Reverend Margaret (Zollicoiffer) Nichols. Hilton and Margaret were shared in the welcoming of their six children: Hilbora “Nick” Nichols, Zelma (Nichols) Dodd Valentine, VeLaura (Nichols) Felton, LeBrasia (Nichols) Goodson, Teretha (Nichols) Myers, and Bettie (Nichols) Wilson. Three siblings, Hilbora, Zelma and LeBrasia preceded her in death.
She was wed to Mark Myers Sr. on April 24th, 1954. During their union, the were blessed with four beautiful children: Robert Myers, Donald Myers, Michael Myers, and Clara Myers in Chicago, Illinois.
During her life she was a cherished member of Emerald Avenue Church of God in Chicago, Illinois. Teretha volunteered as an usher and nursery schoolteacher because her love of babies and children. She attained a nursing degree while living in Chicago. Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s hiring manager was so impressed by her passion for kids, that she worked there for several years before relocating to Los Angeles, California. In Los Angeles (1974), she found a church home at First Church of God under the ministry of Reverend Benjamin F. Reid. Teretha became a member and volunteered to cook for numerous church-sponsored events and provided intermediate medical training to teachers and staff when First Church of God opened a fully accredited school.
Teretha enjoyed her previous service in the medical field so much that she sought similar employment at The UCLA Medical Center. In the early eighties she was recruited by Food and Drug Administration in Los Angeles as a media specialist until retiring and relocating to Atlanta, Georgia to be near family. Teretha joined Believer’s Bible of Atlanta and worked part-time in the church nursery until a member of the church family offered her a full-time position as their children’s nanny, which she gleefully accepted.
Teretha’s love language was acts of service. Whether it be cooking and providing a meal or caring directly for another. Her unyielding faith carried her through childhood illness and two separate breast cancer battles, that were over fifteen years apart. She used every challenge as a testimony of faith. Known for opening her home to those that needed a fighter in their corner. Teretha enjoyed simple pleasures, long drives, new adventures, family meals, sharing ice cream, and laughter.
Teretha is survived by, sisters, VeLaura Felton and Bettie Wilson; Robert (Alice Duschanek) Myers, Donald Myers, Michael (Barbara) Myers, and Clara (Toby) Myers-Daniel; grandchildren, Robin Anderson, Yvette Martin, Ariel Duschanek-Myers, Gisele Duschanek-Myers, Dionysius (Chanel) Myers, Quavilin Brice, Dominique Daniel; great-grandchildren, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and lifelong friends!
