Our mother, SueAnn Beck, woke up in the arms of Jesus Friday night, October 25, 2024.
She was born on May 7, 1941, in Pusan, South Korea, where she met and married an Air Force solider, our father; Milton H. Beck. She then followed him half-way around the world, baby in tow, moving to Cobb County, GA in 1967, where she lived for the remaining 57 years of her life. With limited English skills, she studied diligently to became a US citizen in 1972.
This was back in the day, when passing a test and becoming a citizen of the United States was an honor and a privilege that was earned. Something she was proud of. Mom processed through years of stacked paper work, giving our government the details of her life, financial and other wise, just so she could help give as many of her South Korean family an opportunity for a better life. This was also back in the day when our government required an oath of financial responsibility from a sponsor here in the states, before allowing persons of a foreign country to call our country home. Imagine that. She persevered, and with the help of our daddy, was able to bring her sister’s whole family here in 1982.
Mother was a self-taught hairdresser, had been an employee of Wellstar, and a restaurant owner. Known in her community for her integrity, faith, kindness, hospitality, and ….for being a most excellent cook! Be it cornbread and butter beans or her signature Korean dishes, and that’s where she truly displayed her servants heart in every meal she made.
Out of all of mother’s accomplishments, she was most proud of her children, whom she tirelessly ran the roads with, never missing a game or practice for nearly 20 years. Later she gave that same love and dedication to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mother is survived by her 3 children, Virginia Beck, Milton Beck and Suling & (Jeff) Hogan.
She was affectionately known as Hama by her 7 grandchildren, Jacob & (Lydia) McGee, Olivia & (Marshall) Wiley, Connor Beck, Sara Beck, Taylor Hogan, Tara & (Mathew) Reed, Chad & (Schae) Hogan. Great-grands are Ryan and Avery Reed, Ava, Jasie, Joleigh, & Houston Kate Hogan. Mother is also survived by her 3 sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Today she celebrates in heavenly places, in her pain free body, and in the presence of her God. She is no longer reminiscing over old photographs, but delighting in being face to face with those she has loved and cared for. I can hear the laughter and see the open arms awaiting her.
Momma, as a family we will continue sharing our Korean heritage and the legacy of the sacrificial love you unconditionally displayed. Your gift of laughter and your infectious smile will forever be missed by all who knew you here
Until we see your beautiful face again…run, laugh, dance, and sing; and know that you are and always will be, deeply loved and dearly missed.
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
1 Thess 4 13-14
