Solomon Forbes, Jr., was born on April 17, 1945 to the late Solomon Forbes, Sr., and Olive Martin Forbes, in Norristown, PA
Solomon attended the Norristown Area School District and excelled in a variety of sports.
He was joined in marriage to Gwendolyn Ann Whittington on April 8, 1967, and they had five daughters together.
Solomon was employed by ITT Continental Baking Company – Wonder Bread, where he retired after 30 years of service.
As a youth and into his adult years Solomon enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid fresh water fisherman, hunter and woodsman who mastered the great outdoors and shared his vast knowledge with his wife and daughters. As an adult, he also played football and baseball; he enjoyed bowling and bowled in various leagues throughout the Norristown/Philadelphia areas. He was also a Power Lifter for The Holy Savior Club of Norristown. He competed in the Super Heavy Weight Division, winning many trophies and medals, often being recognized in the local newspaper. He was known in the neighborhood as "The Strongest Man in Norristown". As he grew older he became interested in various crafts. He created driftwood home art, walking canes, custom fishing lures, key chains and various types of jewelry. A consummate crafter, Solomon enjoyed creating unique masterpieces that he was always proud to show off. He loved modeling his creations wherever he went which spawned many conversations with friends and strangers alike, which he loved and enjoyed with great relish. He often sold his creations at craft shows and flea markets. From a youth until his death he enjoyed shooting pool and was well known at several local senior centers.
In 2006, Solomon and Gwendolyn moved to Austell, GA to help care for their 5 year old granddaughter who was very ill. During that time, they joined Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral.
Solomon went from earth to glory on Monday, June 6, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents; Siblings: Rebecca Forbes, Adelaide Forbes and Pylot Forbes, and Granddaughter Shayla Ahmad.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gwendolyn Ann Forbes of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Norristown, PA.
Children: Natalie Forbes-Neal and Robert Neal of Lansdale, PA, Theresa Forbes of Powder Springs, GA, Lisa Forbes-Davis and Ronald Davis of Roswell, GA, Susan Forbes-Fofana, Norristown, PA and Carol Forbes of Mableton, GA. Grandchildren: Shatele Rolland, Jasmine Neal, Robert Neal, Rachel Forbes, Teresa Wesley, Terrell Wesley, Aaron Wesley, Leanna Forbes, Joseph Davis III, Liena Davis, Ronald Davis III, Hassan Fofana, Alexandria Nichols and Salim Ahmad. Great Grandchildren: Zaniyah Gillett, Emmanuel Howard, Elyus Fields, Jaylen Davis and Nala Davis. Siblings: Leonard (Linda) Forbes, Anaheim, CA, Tran Forbes, and Thartis Forbes, Norristown, PA, Ellen Lennon, Philadelphia, PA, Olive (Sissy) Forbes and Valerie Forbes, Pottsgrove, PA, Barbara Forbes, Norristown, PA and Monica Karsky, Philadelphia, PA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
