Sidney D. Ellis, Sr., age 95, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020. A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Mountain View Cemetery in Marietta with Sidney Garrett Ellis officiating.
A native of Fayetteville, GA, Mr. Ellis has lived in Cobb County since 1961. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a aviation machinist mate in World War II from 1943 - 1946, then served during the Korean War in the United States Air Force from 1950 - 1953 as a aviation mechanic on the early jets. He owned and operated Marietta Oxygen Supply for 20 years. He was a member of Olive Springs Baptist Church, and was deeply involved with the Osborne High School Athletics Booster Club for many years, where he was instrumental in building Paul Moore Field. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Henrietta Samples Ellis, just 4 months ago.
Survivors include: 3 Children, Kathy (James) Rechsteiner, Kennesaw, GA, David (Kathy) Ellis, Powder Springs, GA, Jeff (Andrea) Ellis, Kennesaw, GA; 7 Grandchildren, Julia Rechsteiner (Josh) Gauntt, Marietta, GA, Sara Rechsteiner (Ben) Rogers, Marietta, GA, Will (Janie) Rechsteiner, Marietta, GA, Wesley (Tina) Ellis, Marietta, GA, Daniel (AnneMarie) Ellis, Kennesaw, GA, Michelle Ellis, Kennesaw, GA and Sidney Garrett Ellis, Kennesaw, GA; 4 Great Grandchildren, Averi and Ansley Ellis and Sawyer and Lincoln Gauntt; Brother-in-Law, Mike (Cindy) Samples, Kennesaw, GA; Many Nieces and Nephews.
