Ret. FAO Sidney Lenton Baxter FCFD, age 79, of Hiram, Georgia passed away February 25, 2020. Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, February 28, 2020 in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Pastor Ken Wilbur officiating.
Mr. Baxter went to work at the age of 10 at Bobby Dodd Stadium selling cokes during the GA Tech Games and also caddied at the Bobby Jones Golf Course in Atlanta. He retired as a Firefighter with the City of Atlanta and Fulton County Fire Departments after 33 years of employment. Mr. Baxter served on the Powder Springs City Council from 1983 until 2000, and was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Baxter; 4 children, Brian (Theresa) Baxter of Hiram, GA., Todd Baxter of Hiram, GA., Tracie (Chad) Farrar of Hiram, GA., and Travis Baxter of Dallas, GA.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Baxter, Mackenzie (Ryne) Elrod, Bennett Baxter, Kennedy Farrar, Sydnee Baxter and Parker Baxter; four great grandchildren, Lillie Baxter, Easton Elrod, Piper Baxter and Sawyer Elrod; 4 siblings, Shirley (Lee) Anderson of Powder Springs, GA., Debbie (Ricky) Stinchcomb of Powder Springs, GA., Billy (Darlene) Baxter of Rydal, GA., and Ricky (Buffy) Baxter of Spring Island, S.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. Contributions can be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at
