Shelby Jo Gable

May 13, 1938 — October 20, 2023

Shelby Jo Watson Gable, age 85, of Kennesaw, passed away on Friday October 20, 2023, at her residence.
Mrs. Gable was born on May 13, 1938, in Cherokee County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Harold Columbus Reece and the late Alma Cloud Reece. Shelby was a terrific wife and mother. Her grandchildren knew her as “Nana”. Colonel Sanders would have been jealous of her fried chicken. She was always happy to feed and provide a nice place for friends and family to gather. She was tough. The first time she ever flew on an airplane was in 1970 when she took her four oldest children on a flight to Israel by herself where she would meet her husband and serve as a missionary.
Shelby is survived by her husband, Reverend Jimmy Lee Gable, Sr, her five children, Denise Cosby (David), Diane Kramme (Kevin), Donna Coriell (Chris), Bill Watson (Deana) and Micah Watson (Alli); her stepchildren, Kathy Jordan (Randall), Jimmy Lee Gable, Jr (Darlene) and Stacey Solomon (Mike); her grandchildren, Leah Evans (Brolin), Matthew Cosby (Sarah), Zachary Kramme, Joshua Watson (Stacy), Miranda Youngblood, (Chandler), Stephen Coriell, (Angela) Michael Coriell, (Cameron), Noah Coriell, and Ana Coriell, Coleman Watson, Gabe Watson, Henry Watson, Millie Watson, Liam Watson, Wells Watson as well as her step-grandchildren, Christopher Jordan, Kristy Higgins (Jody), Cody Gable (Katie) and Noah Solomon and her great-grandchildren, Alaina, Ezra, Larsen, Norah-Jane, Arden, Aubrey, and Jeremiah; her sisters, Elizabeth McClure (Homer) and Linda Patterson (Kenneth); and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 11:00am in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Union Hill UMC Cemetery in Cherokee County.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 23, 2023, at West Cobb Funeral Home from 6:00pm till 8:00pm.

A message from Shelby's loving husband Jim Gable:
Shelby Jo, my wife of twenty years was a jewel from heaven. We both had great marriages before with great and wonderful spouses. Shelby was one who loved everyone. She never met a person she didn’t like and show love. We travel many miles by land and by air and every situation before we got to where we were going and back she had made many friends that still are her friends today.
She was a woman of punctuation. Every thing had to be in place the way she saw it and wanted it. When she learned how to play golf with me even setting up her tee it had to be just the right height the way she saw it. With her five children and my three we never was lonely for company. My life with her was so wonderful and so precious.
She loved shoes. Every pair had to be just the one to go with her make up. She was always scared of heights and even a small foot stool gave a scare too many times. We loved to be together, we were never to far apart. The many miles we traveled across this country covering most of the states we never lost a moment loving and sharing our love and time together.
Loving people and having them to come by for dinner was her delight. She enjoyed cooking for them and her fried chicken was the best. I loved the way she knew her Bible. I never preached any where that as the services was going she was right there with the amen.
She spent over a dozen years with her first husband in Israel and when the war broke out she was so frighten for her so many friends that were still there. She took the time every day to pray for their cause.
Her love and compassion for me and all others will forever be missed. But a great praise to God for taking her home to be in that beautiful paradise He had made for her.
