Sarah Frances Thomas McAuley Orton
Born July 22, 1925 in Anniston, Alabama to Sarah and JD Thomas. Sarah passed away September 4, 2012 peacefully in her sleep.
After graduation from high-school in Anniston Sarah married her high school sweetheart William McAuley. While he was serving in the Marines overseas, Sarah was perusing her nursing career. Her dream was never fulfilled. Her husband returned and she gave up her dream to have two children.
Sarah is proceeded in death by her son William McAuley Jr. and one brother J.D. Thomas of Austin, Texas.
Sarah later married Henry Orton and together they opened their own laundry business serving Atlanta Braves Spring Training camp and the Colony Hotel in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Retiring to North Carolina Mr Orton passed away, and Sarah moved to Marietta Georgia . She took a part time job with Mega Marketing providing food demos for Sams, Walt-mart, Publix, and other local chains. She won several awards during this time, for presentation, and most liked demo person.
Sarah made lap quilts for a nursing home in Pennsylvania. She loved to sew, quilt, cook, play cards with her grandchildren, and play Bunco.
Sarah wrote a monthly cooking article for a newsletter where she resided at
Henderson Arms in Marietta Georgia. Everyone loved her cakes and pies.
She was a strong advocate against smoking and would often state to anyone
”if you don't smoke don't start.“
Sarah leaves behind daughter and son-in-law Mary and Robert Shannon. Daughter in law, MargaretAnne McAuley Payne. Grandchildren Eric Harden, Greg and MaryAnne Harden, Justin McAuley, Meghan McAuley Davis & husband. BJ Shannon ,Kris Berman, Kelly Shannon. Kerry and Amy Shannon. Great grandchildren, Noel Carpenter, Gregory Harden Jr, Tiffany and Mary Elizabeth Harden, Alex, and Micheal Berman, Sydney Foster, Wesley and Haley Shannon, Logan and Madelyn McAuley and 4 great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Diabetes foundation. Memorial services to be announced later.
