Ruth Mayme Newman

Ruth M. Newman, 88, ended her fight with Dementia Tuesday afternoon, January 16, 2024.  Born in Iowa, she moved to the island of Aruba and grew up there.  Ruth attended the University of Georgia, where she met her husband of 62 years, Dub Newman, graduating from UGA with a BS in Education in 1958.  She was the loving mother of two sons, Randy and Russ.  She attended and then graduated Marietta-Cobb Area Vocational-Technical school in 1975.   She and Dub were both long time members of Kennesaw Methodist Church and their Sunday School class and she served as various officers in the United Methodist Women.  She also served over 20 years at the polls of Cobb County for the Board of Elections and Registration. Later in life, she worked as cashier for the cafeteria of Awtrey Middle School in Cobb County.  She enjoyed reading and painting in her spare time.
She was predeceased by her father, Russell C. Carrell, mother Ruth M. Carrell, Husband William S. (Dub) Newman III and her twin sister, Nancy and her husband Jim Bridges.   

She is survived by sons William Randall (Laurie) Newman, Russell Douglas (Carol) Newman, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, Sisters Russeen Lantz and Margie Pate and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life is planned at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064 on Saturday January 20, 2024 at 11:00 am with visitation preceding at 10:00 AM.
