Ronald Thomas Watkins

Ronald Thomas Watkins aka PAPA, age 75, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away October 10, 2021 just a short five months after his wife/sweetheart of 52 plus years. His Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Marietta, GA with Rev. Keith Collins and Rev. Thomas Grantham officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Shady Grove Cemetery in Murphy, North Carolina with Rev. Jerry Rice officiating. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Rice Watkins, and his parents, R.T. and Mae (Hall) Watkins.

Ronnie, as most folks knew him by, was born in Atlanta GA.. He is a graduate of Georgia State College and the first in his family to attend college. Ronnie worked for the telephone company Southern Bell and when it changed names to Bellsouth. He retired with 30 years of service in 1996. During his career with the telephone company he worked with teams that helped bring fiber optics technology to the metro Atlanta area. He was an avid fan of all of the Atlanta sports teams and the Georgia Bulldogs. But his favorite athletes were his granddaughters and he loved to attend their games to cheer for them and wear his shirt and hat to represent. He loved to take his family to Disney and left them a legacy of Disney Vacation Club to be enjoyed for years to come. He attended Zion View Baptist Church as a child/youth; Grace Baptist Church as a youth and adult where he met his beautiful wife and served as the Sunday School Director and an Awana leader for many years; and Floyd Road Baptist Church where he served as the Sunday School Director for several years. On homecoming Sundays you would find him pouring sweet tea and being the last to eat after he made sure everyone else was served.

Survivors include: Daughters: Sabrina West of Waleska, GA; and Amber (Keith) Haggard of Dallas GA.; Six Granddaughters, Carrie West of Northport AL; Caitlin (Hunter) Colbert of Canton GA; Colleen West of Lithia Springs GA; Natalie, Ella and Abbie Haggard of Dallas GA. Three Great Grandsons: Colton, Langston and Gunner Colbert; and Sister, Shirley Smith of Villa Rica, GA.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 17, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA.
