Ron was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia, the oldest child of Charles Wesley and Barbara Matthews Cheshire who both preceded him in death. After graduation from Marietta High School in 1967, Ron attended Southern Technical Institute and played baseball as a pitcher for the college team before injuring his shoulder. He then worked briefly for the Lockheed Georgia Company, and then in 1970 followed his father and became a Cobb County Police Officer where he served until 1985. Ron was one of the first Officers to arrive at Dobbins AFB/Lockheed the night of October 7, 1970 when the first C-5A aircraft ever produced was destroyed from a massive fire during maintenance. Ron then worked for Home Depot corporate for a few years, and then along with his wife Nancy started their own computer business in Roswell. After selling the business, Ron worked for Southern Computer Warehouse (SCW) as the return manager. Ron retired in 2020 due to the COVID epidemic.
As a child, Ron was an avid baseball player and was a member of the 1963 Marietta Pony League who were World Series Champions that year. Ron and his future wife Nancy were classmates and dated while attending Marietta High School, and later reconnected and were married in 1981. Daughter Katharine was born a year later, and they also raised Ron’s son Brent and his daughter Lynn from a previous marriage. Ron loved raising several dogs over the years, and later his cats as well. He was an avid woodworker and created many pieces of furniture, and most recently his specialty was making detailed lighthouses out of wood from locations around the world. Ron also loved to play golf.
Ron was predeceased by his wife Nancy Blackwood Cheshire whom he was married to for 33 years, and leaves behind daughter Lynn Frady (Phil) of Douglasville, son Brent Cheshire (Michelle) of Powder Springs, daughter Kendra Cheshire of Douglasville, and daughter Katharine Tate (Brian) of Powder Springs. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren Kinsey Cheshire, Hunter Cheshire, Jamie Tate, Christopher Cheshire, and Caitlin Cheshire. Also surviving is his brother Randy Cheshire (Clare) of Kennesaw. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Tranquility Hospice for the exceptional care and comfort provided to the family and Ron during his final days.
