Ronald Van Chastain, peacefully passed away, Sunday, December, 10, 2017 after a brief illness. Born on May 19, 1944, to William Jefferson and Lona Chastain, in Blue Ridge, Georgia, Ron was the youngest of thirteen children, growing up in Gastonia, NC, where his father pastored a church. After serving in the U. S. Army, Ron worked in law enforcement and the trucking industry, eventually retiring from Yellow Freight Trucking, after 25 faithful years.
Ron was a member of Macland Baptist Church in Marietta. He had an incredible passion for God’s Word, and desired to tell as many people as he could about the blessed hope of eternity found in Jesus Christ. Devoted to his wife, family and his Savior, Ron was a witty and kind man, who knew no stranger, had a wonderful sense of humor, was a storyteller and “the best Papaw there ever was”.
Married for 38 years to Marvenia (Thomas), Ron also leaves behind son, Scott McDuffie and his wife, Jackie of Marietta, son, Eric McDuffie, and his wife Anna of Marietta, grandchildren, Paiton McDuffie of Spokane WA, Connor McDuffie, of Marietta (currently serving in the U.S. Army), Aubrie McDuffie of Marietta, Celine McDuffie of Marietta, brother Bob and his wife Betty of Blueridge, GA, and an extended family of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 14th from 1-3pm at West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life service, in the chapel. Burial services will be held on Friday, December 15, at 10:30am at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA.
