Roger Landry

November 8, 1942 — April 14, 2023

Roger A. Landry (80) of Marietta, GA, passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, April 14, 2023. He had battled long and hard against Alzheimer’s for several years and was surrounded by his family during the last few weeks of his life. Roger was born November 8, 1942 to Aldor “Joe” and Yvonne Landry in Warwick RI. Roger was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, RI. He obtained his bachelors degree and masters degree in education from Rhode Island College. Following his graduation, he began teaching math for the Pawtucket School Department in Rhode Island, eventually becoming an Administrator for the town. Upon his retirement from the school department, Roger and his wife moved to Georgia to be closer to their grandchildren. He worked for a few years in software sales, but ultimately returned to his love of teaching. He became a math teacher at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA where he remained until 2004, when he retired again to enjoy life and travel with his wife.

Roger is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Laurette McNeil Landry, and his three children, Michael Landry and his wife Judy of Atlanta, GA, John Landry and his wife Kim, of Phoenix, AZ, and Karen Landry Urquhart and her husband, Todd, of Kennesaw, GA. He is also survived by his sister, Annette Landry Hanlon and her husband Robert, of Coconut Creek, FL and his eight grandchildren, Rebecca Landry Murphy and her husband Eric, Matthew Landry, Eli Landry, Jonah Landry, Meaghan Urquhart, Averi Urquhart, Tatum Urquhart, and Briggs Urquhart. Roger loved every one of these people immensely. He never hesitated to say “I love you” and follow up with hugs and kisses. He was a kid at heart and was the first to get down on the floor to play with his grandkids, ride the roller coasters and water slides with them, swing on the rope into the ball pit at birthday parties, pick them up and run to see the trains when they would come by his home, or do canon balls into the pool to make them laugh. He loved to travel the world with Laurette and during their retirement they saw a good portion of it, but his favorite was always his time crossing the ocean on their trans-Atlantic cruises. The greatest gift Roger gave his children and grandchildren was his love of the Lord. He never missed church and he loved to sing in the choir.

Aside from his love for his family and his love for the Lord, Roger loved the beach, traveling, the New England Patriots, running, (especially in the Peachtree Road Race), gardening, Soduku, white chocolate Frappacinos, and the Atlanta Braves. He loved the Braves so much that during retirement, he took a part-time job as an usher for them at Turner Field. He loved the excitement and loyalty of the season ticket holders in his section and as a bonus got to see his team for every home game. He knew all the rules to all the games we would play as a family and he was always the score keeper. He was also “Maps” before there was Apple or Google maps or Waze. He would study them and learn new ways to get from point A to point B and every shortcut that could save him some time. Roger will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

There will be a celebration of his life on May 1, 2023 at 10:00 am, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Marietta, GA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
