On September 7, 2023, Dan Stubblefield passed away at the age of 76 years. He will be forever fondly remembered by his beloved wife and best friend of 41 years, Elizabeth. A native of Alabama, Dan attended Jacksonville State University, UC Santa Cruz and Monterey Peninsula College.
Dan was born January 6, 1947 in Sylacauga, Alabama and grew up in Fayetteville, Gantts Quarry and Sylacauga. He was a big Alabama Football fan and especially enjoyed all of their championship games. He was also a Braves fan.
He was a member of the Church of Christ since 1958 and in his later years attended Macland Road, Burnt Hickory and Austell Road congregations in Marietta, Georgia.
Dan fondly remembers the elders who took a large part in forming the man he became: Waymon Masters, Cons Milner, Reese Hughes, Byron Hanson, BE “Sonny” Riggins, Julius Gray, Brother Baxter, “Ruth” Parker, Brother Payton, Victor Blankenship, Brother Blackmon, R.D. Norred, Marion Carter, Brother Bettis, and Stanley Carter.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Stubblefield, and four brothers: Franklin Jerome Fowler (AL), Larry Wayne Fowler (AL), Randall Keith Fowler (AL), and Roger Stubblefield (OH).
In Dan’s career he was an Operations Manager for several consumer finance and mortgage companies including: Chase, Manufacturers Hanover, American General, and Credithrift. Dan often joked that it was basically the same position. The companies just kept changing hands. For the last 10 years of his career, he and Elizabeth ran Liberty home Mortgage in Marietta, Georgia.
Dan was honored to have served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1967 to 1970. He left as an E-5 after having served as the company clerk for Company D, DLIWC Presidio of Monterey, California, for his entire 3-year term of enlistment. He then returned to the south.
Interment will take place on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 12:30 pm, at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. He will be laid to rest amongst his veteran brethren in hallowed ground. Dan’s family welcomes family and friends to attend a visitation on Saturday, October 14, from 1:00 until 2:00 pm with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm at Burnt Hickory Church of Christ in Marietta, Georgia.
