Robert (Bob) Powell, 73, passed away on Oct. 9, 2021 after a 13-year battle with cancer. Even though his illness took him away from this world, his loving spirit will be remembered and dearly missed by those who knew him.
Bob grew up in Marietta, Ga. His parents and two older sisters, Connie Fitts and Faye Strickland, lived a few blocks from Marietta Square. Bob served two years with distinction in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. The patriotism and fellowship he learned during his duty never left him, as his friends will attest. Following his business degree from George State University, Bob spent 40 years in retail management. He enjoyed his retirement traveling overseas and visiting national parks. He was also an avid hiker and collector of baseball cards.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joy, and his three children: Regan, Emily and Wes. He was also a grandfather to three boys.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021 at 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at the West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory located at 2480 Macland Rd, Marietta, GA 30064. Bob will be buried at the Georgia National Cemetery later this year. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society at https://www.cancer.org/ .
