Mr. Richard Edward Jackson, age 92, of Powder Springs, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, with Chaplain Mike Cronin officiating.
A native of Inverness, Florida, Mr. Jackson was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War before continuing his education. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Florida A&M University, where he met the love of his life, Barbara James. His passion for teaching led him to the Polk County School Board, where he began his career as an industrial arts teacher. His dedication to education continued as he earned a master’s degree from Georgia Southern University, eventually becoming an assistant principal at Haines City High School, where he served until his retirement.
In 2004, Mr. Jackson moved to Powder Springs, GA, to be closer to his grandchildren. He was a devoted member of Temple Baptist Church and found joy in fishing, working in his yard, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Barbara J. Jackson; his son, Brian (Cistress) Jackson of Powder Springs, GA; four grandchildren, Stephen Jackson, Ethan Jackson, Jared Jackson, and Micaela Jackson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, and extended family members who cherished him deeply.
He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to education, and unwavering love for his family.
