Rev. Richard Edward Hemphill, age 77, of Hiram, GA went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Funeral Services will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Trinity Fellowship Church in Marietta with Rev. Tim Hemphill and Mr. Dick Skelton officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 11am until 12pm. Interment will follow at 2:30pm at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton with military honors.
Born on March 30, 1947 in Toccoa, GA to his parents, Fulton and Geneva Hemphill, Rev. Hemphill lived most of his life in Cobb County. After graduating from Campbell High School in 1966, he joined the United States Army, having served in Korea during the Vietnam war guarding nuclear warheads. After returning from military service, he attended and graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service while working as a Funeral Assistant for Sanders-Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna, GA. He proudly served as a Licensed Funeral Director for many years.
His Christian Ministry included working as a manager at the "Joyful Noise (Christian Supperclub)", working for WYNX Christian Radio Station in Smyrna, GA, he was a part owner and manager for WFOM Christian Radio in Smyrna, GA, served as the congregation leader of music at Trinity Baptist Church for 9 years, and served as the Senior Pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church for 35 years. After retirement, he continued to serve and minister to families while working for West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Anne Fraser Hemphill; 3 children, Renee Hemphill (Joel) Smith, Kennesaw, GA, Allen (Shannon) Hemphill, Woodstock, GA, and Timothy Edward (Clara Lynn) Hemphill, Pensacola, FL; 3 siblings, Jane (Jay) Wannamaker, Hiram, GA, Mary Grace Forrester, Hiram, GA, and Thomas (Sarah) Hemphill, Hiram, GA; 6 Grandchildren, Nathan (Quincey Caylor) Smith, Kayla Smith, Zachary (Marybeth) Smith, Ethan Hemphill, Maggie Hemphill, and Addison Hemphill.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18th from 4pm until 6pm and 7pm until 9pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Love Worth Sharing International at www.jesusloveshaiti.org
