Retired Colonel Donald Lee Keil, U.S. Army, age 78, of Marietta, GA, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Marietta First United Methodist Church with Rev's Sam Matthews, Caludette Farmer and Elaine Wilder officiating. Interment will be at Bluff Hall Church Cemetery in Quincy, IL at a later date.
A native of Illinois, Mr. Keil graduated from Sangamon State University in Springfield, IL. He served in the United States Army for 37 years before retirement, including during the Berlin Crisis and the Vietnam War.
Throughout his life, he was either a member of, or active and involved with many associations, including the following: Cobb County Chamber of Commerce Honorary Commander’s Association, Commanding Officer of National Guard Quartermaster Company in Vietnam, VFW, Reserve Officer’s Association, National Guard Association, Illinois Guard Association, Past President of Junior Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters International, Illinois National Guard Selective Service Detachment, Illinois National Guard OFC Hall of Fame, Manager of Objector Conscientious Program, Acting Region Director of National Guard and Selective Service for the southeast, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and an active member of Marietta First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include:
Wife, Electa M. Keil, Marietta, GA; 3 Children, Devin (Nancy) Keil, Duluth, GA, Denise (Jeff) Betts, Cumming, GA, and Parker Allen, Powder Springs, GA; 8 Grandchildren; and Special “Brothers”, General Hap Northern and Allen Prewett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled Veteran’s Association.
