Peggy Ann Norris

Peggy Ann Norris, 92, formerly of Venice, FL and Port Huron, MI, passed away on January 10, 2025 in Marietta, GA after a long and fulfilling life as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Peggy was born on June 3, 1932 to Clara (Whitman) and Dorrance Shafer Sr in Battle Creek, MI. After high school, Peggy went on to study Elementary Education and Special Education at Western Michigan University and Michigan State University. She spent much of her life working with young children as an educator in Three Rivers and Port Huron, MI and was a proud member of the Girl Scouts as well as a 4H leader.

Peggy was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of almost 70 years, Richard L Norris and by her parents and brothers, Jay (Bertha) Shafer, Dorrance (Eleanor) Shafer Jr, Ralph (Gloria) Shafer and sister Dora (Ike) Smoke. She is survived by daughters Sandra (Gregory) Burfitt and Susan (Michael) Rollins as well as her grandchildren Scott (Carol) Burfitt, Sarah (Parker) Braun, Matthew Rollins, Emily Rollins, and Tristan Rollins. Also, she had the joy of spending many years with her five great-grandchildren, Will Burfitt, James Burfitt, Connor Burfitt, Hunter Braun, and Charlotte Braun.

Peggy enjoyed traveling with Richard and her children and grandchildren, playing golf, walking, fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, and being with friends. She enjoyed life in retirement on Anna Maria Island, FL and later in Venice, FL. She and Richard were members of Christ Venice Church in Venice, FL. 

Services will be held at a later date with a private burial in Athens, MI where she will be reunited with the love of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ Venice Church, 1475 Center Rd, Venice, FL 34292 or a children's charity of your choice.
