Nilda was the true matriarch of her family. She was the mother of seven children, the grandmother to her nineteen grandchildren and the great-grandmother to her 19 great-grandchildren.

Nilda era la verdadera matriarca de su familia. Madre de siete hijos, abuela de diecinueve nietos y bisabuela de 19 bisnietos.

Born in Lares, Puerto Rico on July of 1933, Nilda lived an extraordinary life; filled with adversity, passion, and dignity. She grew up in el barrio Bajadero. As such, she developed an undeniable warrior spirit, which she most certainly passed on to each generation of Lopez.

Nacida en Lares, Puerto Rico en Julio de 1933, Nilda vivió una vida extraordinaria; llena de adversidad, pasión, y dignidad. Creció en el barrio Bajadero. Allí comenzó a desarrollar un innegable espíritu luchador, el cual sin duda alguna pasó a cada generación López.

Nilda was loved by many. A Pentecostal at heart, she was very active in the church. Over the last fifty years, she had devoted her life to the Lord. As a result, she brought light and joy to all that crossed her path. She displayed compassion and kindness, along with a sense of humor that was profoundly contagious. Nilda glowed with charisma and a smile that never seemed to end. Her love of her family and friends was second to none. This was always evident in her cooking, as she took pride in nourishing their soul and stomach alike. Her enduring spirit will truly be missed.

Nilda era muy querida por muchos. Pentecostal de corazón, era muy activa en la iglesia. Durante los últimos cincuenta años, dedicó su vida al Señor. Como resultado, trajo luz y gozo a todo aquel que cruzó su camino. Mostró compasión y cariño, junto con un sentido del humor profundamente contagioso. Nilda brillaba con carisma y una sonrisa que al parecer no tenía fin. Su amor por su familia y sus amigos no tenía igual. Esto era siempre evidente en su cocina, ya que ella se enorgullecía en alimentar tanto sus cuerpos como sus almas. Echaremos mucho de menos su espíritu imperecedero.

As she embarks on her journey to Heaven, she will undoubtedly be greeted by her son and daughter, Edwin and Margie, at its pearly gates. Nilda leaves behind a family comprised of multiple generations; a family that has been shaped by her lessons, experiences and disposition. Her strength and indomitable spirit course through their veins.

En su viaje rumbo al cielo, sin duda sus hijos Edwin y Margie le darán la bienvenida a su llegada a las puertas nacaradas. Nilda deja a tras una familia compuesta de múltiples generaciones; una familia forjada por su ejemplo, sus experiencias y su disposición. Su entereza y su espíritu indomable les corre por las venas.

To Nilda; our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, we thank you for your sacrifice, devotion, tears and love. Thank you for being our angel on Earth and now our guardian angel above.

A Nilda, nuestra madre, abuela, bisabuela y amiga: gracias por tu sacrificio, tu devoción, tus lágrimas y tu amor. Gracias por ser un ángel en esta tierra y ahora nuestro ángel guardián desde lo alto.
