Michael Clark Smallwood

April 9, 1957 — November 30, 2024

Douglasville, GA

Michael Clark Smallwood, age 67, long-time resident of Mableton and Smyrna, Georgia, passed away November 30, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hollis “Bud” and Eloise Chandler Smallwood, sister Charlotte Smallwood, and brother William “Bill” Smallwood. He is survived by his sisters Sandra (Joe Erni) of Douglasville and Karen (Jon Cunningham) of Canton, GA, son Mike (Erika) Gass of Cumming, daughter Hope Smallwood of Marietta, and by grandchildren Charlotte, Madeline, Emmylou, Ellis, Mark, and Luke.

Michael was born in Atlanta, GA, and attended Pebblebrook High School. Always quick with a joke, he was probably best known for his unique sense of humor. He had a great love of music and often played classic rock selections loud enough to rock the house. He was also an accomplished drummer and guitarist. He cheered for the Braves, Falcons, and the Dawgs. He loved hiking and camping and was quick to make a friend wherever he went. Much like his own father, if Michael “picked on” you, you knew you were loved.

He loved to stay busy. It was common to find him painting, remodeling, being the “pool guy,” or planting vegetables in the garden, and he did so despite severe pain or physical difficulties from a back injury that could easily have been an obstacle.

He cared with his whole heart, and helped many through difficult times, traveling with his sister when she was undergoing treatment for cancer, and serving as primary caregiver to his mother in her elderly years. The family is especially grateful for his acts of selflessness.

Michael will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
