Dr. Michael Jones Reid, (63), left us on September 30, 2024, with his family by his side in Kennesaw, Georgia. Mike was born in Houston, TX, on June 12, 1961 to Ishmel and Ivye Lou Reid. Mike grew up most of his life in Jayess, Mississippi, where he graduated high school in 1979. Mike obtained a Master of Divinity, a Master of Theology, and a PhD in psychology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Upon receiving a job at Richmont University in Atlanta, GA, he, Andrea, and Kaylee moved to Kennesaw in 2006. Mike worked for two years at Richmont (formerly Psychological Studies Institute) and became disabled during the spring of 2008. Mike’s health journey has been quite arduous, but he never lost his joy or faith in God. One of his favorite verses is, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” Mike remained true to this command.
Mike loved Jesus with his whole heart, soul, and mind, and never stopped telling others about our Savior’s love and care for each of us. Mike also enjoyed biking, hiking, fishing, or anything else that happened outdoors. He spent a lot of his time lately just being with family, especially that beautiful granddaughter, Sophie. We will spend the rest of our days making sure that our sweet Beau knows who his Papa was and how much he loved him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Andrea, daughter, Kaylee (Justin Pettit), grandchildren, Sophie and Beau, and his sisters Debbie Reid (the late Tommy Reid) and Brenda Conn (Tab), many nieces and nephews, and Stuart Britt (Ashlee) and children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ishmel Jones and Ivye Lou Reid.
Mike would want his life to be remembered as one where Jesus was glorified and friends knew he loved them. The phrase that Mike often quoted was, “Everything will be alright in the end . . . if it’s not alright, it’s not the end.” We know that this is not the end for Mike. He is with Jesus worshiping with a healthy body and mind . . . awaiting the time where his loved ones will join him.
