Michael Jerome Austin was born March 21, 1956 to the late Julia Mae Holmes-Austin and James Henry Austin in Fort
Lauderdale, FL. Michael graduated from Northeast High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Class of 1974. He then Attended Morris Brown College and Clark University, Atlanta GA. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia the world's oldest national fraternal society in music. Upon graduating from college he began his professional career with the Public School System of the Greater Atlanta, GA area. He showed great enthusiasm for the students he taught at Langston Hughes High School in Fulton County. The students in turn appreciated
him serving as a positive role model.
Michael was a caring person who loved his family dearly. He was very passionate about work, music, golf and fishing. An avid football fan who also loved to cook. Throughout his career he touched the lives of many children and aided in their transition from adolescence to adulthood. Assisting and mentoring them gave him great satisfaction. Michael came from a long line of professional musicians. He began playing the trumpet at an early age and was exceptionally good at it. In his spare time if not playing his trumpet, out playing golf or fishing, he would be tinkering on his Mustang (Saleen).
Michael leaves to cherish his memory two sisters: Cotrecia Austin of Delray Beach, FL; Sonya Rene'e Summerset (Donnell) of Warner Robins, GA; Three brothers: Sheldon Austin, Darryl Austin and Mose Austin all of Fort Lauderdale, FL; One brother Donald Austin, preceded him in death; A cousin who was like a brother, Eric Holmes, of Pompano Beach, FL; Sixteen nieces and nephews; Eleven great-nieces and great-nephews; and two great-great nephews; Two Aunts: Margaret Holmes of Hawkinsville, GA, and Rose Bethel of Pompano Beach, FL. He will also be remembered by a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.
