Corporal Melvin Wesley Rush, USMC, age 90, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Monday, September 23, 2019. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 27, 2019 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Bruce Hamrick officiating.
Born and raised in Mobile, AL, Mr. Rush graduated from Auburn University. He moved to Marietta in 1959. He was an ordained Minister, and served as Minister of Youth and Education at Smyrna First Baptist Church. He also worked with the Atlanta Housing Authority and for the Cobb County Tag Office before retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, was a member of the Smyrna Kiwanis Club, a member, Sunday School Teacher and Deacon Emeritus at Milford Baptist Church, and loved reading, bird watching, gardening and doing crosswords. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Rush earlier this year, and his parents, Albert and Thelma Rush.
Survivors include: 4 children, Rhett Rush, Marietta, GA, Rhonda Rush (Phil) Hardy, San Clemente, CA, Roxane Rush, Canton, GA and Ryan (Pam) Rush, Cumming, GA; 3 Grandchildren, Cory Rush, Chelsey Rush and Emily Rush; 1 Great Grandchild, Hailey Rush.
