Melvin N. Couey, age 91, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Pastors Terry Marbut and Jeff Childers officiating. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
Born in Rome, GA, Mr. Couey lived most of his life in Powder Springs. He retired from Lockheed after 20 years of employment, then worked as a plumbing supervisor for the Cobb County School System for 12 years. He was named the West Cobb Citizen of the year in 2013, and was a charter member of the West Cobb Lion's Club, where he was also named the Lion of the Year in 2014, and was awarded the Melvin Jones Award, which is the highest award given by the Lion's Club. Mr. Couey was a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy, served in the Georgia State Guard, was a member of the Boy Scouts for 25 years, sang in quartets, called Bingo at Kroger for 15 years, and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Douglasville.
Survivors: Wife, Mary Lois Couey; 2 Children, Dean Couey, Hiram, GA and Nancy (Charles) Hudson, Powder Springs, GA; 3 Step Children, Mickey (Victoria) Dobbins, Orlando, FL, Sandy Hogan, Marietta, GA and Steve Dobbins, Powder Springs, GA; 4 Grandchildren, Gene Hudson, Josh Couey, Bree Brady and Adam Couey, and 8 Great Grandchildren.
