Mary H. Smith of Marietta, Ga, moved to her eternal heavenly home on June 17, 2014, at the age of 98. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard L. Smith, Sr., her son Richard L. Smith, Jr., and two grandsons, Bradford D. Jack and Dr. Jeffrey Jack. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter and son, June and Al Jack of Marietta, her son and daughter, Veronica and Bill Smith of Marietta, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and her devoted special friend, Mildred “Millie” Barie of Marietta. Mary was a current member of First Baptist Church Kennesaw and prior to her membership at KFBC, she spent over twenty years worshipping at First United Methodist Church, Marietta. Mary was widowed at the age of 49 and at the age of 62, her three children who all resided in Marietta, convinced her to move from Chattanooga and make her home in Marietta, also. Mary enjoyed a very active social life for many years and developed many lifelong friends through the Marietta Solo Club, the Widow’s Club, the West Cobb Senior Center, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary was a past worthy matron of Brainerd Chapter, O.E.S., in Chattanooga, Tennessee and a member of Marietta Chapter #208, O.E.S. in Marietta.
A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at a future date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Foundation for Rhodes Homes, Inc., 2801 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30329.
