Mary Walters Matthews

Mary Walters Matthews, age 97, of Dallas, GA passed away Friday, July 15, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Tuesday July 19, 2022 at West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta GA 30064, with Dr LeBron Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park 1861 Dallas Highway, Marietta, GA 30064. She will lie in state at West Cobb Funeral Home 1 hour prior to the service. Born in Chattanooga TN, Mrs. Matthews lived in Kennesaw GA for the past 71 years.

Mary was a homemaker all of her life and is fondly remembered as “Granny” by her numerous grandchildren. She kept the home front running in Chattanooga TN while her husband served in the United States Army Air Corp in WW II from 1942 - 1945. She helped raise their three daughters while he worked for Lockheed for 31 years and retired in 1982. Mary loved to sing and sang in the choir at various churches in Cobb County. She served as a deacon’s wife at Roswell Street Baptist Church and Macland Baptist Church. She loved Jesus and enjoyed Sunday School, worship, her Bible, and good preaching all her life!

Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her husband Walter Franklin Matthews on July 20, 2016. She was also preceded in death by a son Curtis Franklin Matthews in 1945. Survivors include 3 children, Myra (William) Brown, Dallas GA, Tera Matthews, Dallas GA, and Karen (Scott) Allen, Kennesaw GA; 7 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great - Great Grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday morning July 19th 9:30am to 10:30am at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory.
