Mary Elizabeth Bass Justice, age 66 of Dallas, passed away after a brief illness Friday, July 22, 2022, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Americus, GA, on October 5, 1955, she was the daughter of the late O.S. Bass, III, and the late June Mundy Campbell. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Justice; a brother, Homer Blankenship; and a step-son, Kenny Justice. Mary, currently employed with USIS, had worked for more than forty years as an insurance adjuster in the worker's compensation claims division.
Mary was an avid Bulldawg fan and a consummate volunteer. One of her most notable volunteer activities was with the UGA Silver Dawgs Hospitality Group. In addition, she helped create the Dare to Care ministry and later supported Hope thru Soap, both of which provide outreach and support to those who are less fortunate. She enjoyed seasonal work as a Rome Braves Usher where she was lovingly known as the Dancing Usher. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially rocking on her front porch, watching the birds, growing beautiful flowers in her yard, walking on the Silver Comet Trail, and visiting the Smoky Mountains. Loving animals, she fed and took care of many cats in her neighborhood, both friendly and feral. Mary also spent many fun hours line dancing; but most of all she loved her family.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Carey Sauerbrun of Dallas; her sister Jeannie (Patrick) Martin of Aragon; her brother O.S. (Trish) Bass, IV, of Merritt Island, FL; and her step daughter-in-law, Debbie Justice of Grant's Pass, Oregon. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Gabriel Sauerbrun, Ainsley Sauerbrun, Elias Sauerbrun, Seth Osborne, and Brittany Morrison; her step-mother, Pat Bass of Columbus; her step-father, Joe Bill Campbell of Cedartown; her sisters-in-law, Lori Thacker of Cedartown and Kristin Wangemann of Gainesville; along with a very large extended family.
