Marilyn Elaine (Sheldon) Fussell passed away at age 91on October 20th, 2024, in Marietta GA after a long illness. Formerly of Powder Springs GA, Pace Fl, Savannah GA, Sykesville MD, she was born on February 23, 1933, in Waynesboro, PA, as the third child of Eldon K. and Lilian Mae Sheldon. She was proceeded in death by her parents, sister Janet Pentz, and brother Eldon K. (Buck) Sheldon Jr. She is survived by her brother Richard Sheldon (Sue) of Lula, GA.
Marilyn graduated from Waynesboro High School and later Franklin Square Hospital Nursing School in Baltimore, MD. After earning her license as a Registered Nurse, Marilyn married Jesse W Fussell Jr. (deceased March 11, 2015). The couple made their home in Sykesville, MD for many years where she worked at Springfield State Hospital, Carroll County Hospital and Eldersburg Elementary school as a Registered Nurse. She was active in the Sykesville community and schools for many years while supporting their children. Marilyn and Jesse raised four children, Gregory K. (Lisa) Macon, GA, Michael L. Fussell (Jan), Monterey, CA, Barbara-Jo (Robert) Mitchell, Marietta, GA, and Mark S. Fussell (Kimberly), Aiken SC. Marilyn had 9grandchildren, Matthew (Carrie) Fussell, Ryan Fussell, Benjamin (Rachel) Mitchell, Stephanie (Brandon) Schultheis, Samuel Fussell, Alexandra (Justin) Fussell, Lindsey (Danyel) Rolland, Jacob Fussell, Emily-Claire Fussell and ten great-grandchildren.
Marilyn and Jesse later moved to Savannah Ga, where she worked as a school nurse, and then to Pace, FL where they made their home for several decades. Marilyn retired from the Santa Rosa County Health Department in Milton Florida after a decade of service to the community, which included many instances of hurricane relief throughout Florida. After retirement, Marilyn and Jesse enjoyed travelling, going on cruises and spending time together and with family. She was active in her church in Florida and later at Due West Methodist Church in Marietta, GA where she enjoyed playing the hand bells during the Christmas season. She was an accomplished painter and artist who always found time to sew and be active in the community.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, November 16th, 2024, at West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, Georgia 30064, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, with a memorial service immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Due West Methodist Church (3956 Due West Rd, NE, Marietta, GA 30064), for the Murphy Harpst Children’s Center or to Due West Methodist Church for the Backpack Weekend Food Distribution Ministry for Elementary students.
