Marie Sumner

Marie Elizabeth Sumner, age 78, of Lithia Springs, Georgia passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Temple Baptist Church in Powder Springs with Rev. Josh Hon and Rev. Thomas Grantham officiating. She will lie in state at the church from 1pm until 2pm prior to the ceremony. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Douglasville, GA.

Born in Atlanta, Mrs. Sumner moved to Smyrna, GA in 1960. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1963, then went to work for Cummins Robertson Optical Laboratory as a bookkeeper. She later worked as an accountant and retired from Mikart in Atlanta after 32 years of employment. She enjoyed playing the organ, and had played for several churches in the community, including Post Oak Baptist, Hammond Park Baptist, Grace Baptist, and Temple Baptist. She also loved cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include: Husband of 56 years, Jessie Ray Sumner; 4 Children, Jason (Kelli) Sumner, Douglasville, GA, Broderick (Michelle) Sumner, Carrollton, GA, Erica (Allen) Patterson, Dillon, Montana, and Rachel (Kevin) Rogers, Cartersville, GA; 2 Sisters, Carolyn Shook, Mableton, GA, and Dell Holcomb, Mableton, GA; 14 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and Nieces and Nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia.
