On Friday, September 20, 2019, Madhukar Krishnakumar Gandhi, loving husband and father of two sons, passed away at age 67.
Madhu was born on July 24, 1952 in Mumbai, India to Krishnakumar and Padma Gandhi. The middle of three brothers, Madhu Gandhi received degree from the Institute of Hotel Management in Shivaji Park Dadar, India in 1972. He met his wife, Ila Gandhi in 1976 and they were married three weeks later on the 11th of February. They traveled through the Middle East as Madhu worked in hotel management for Sheraton Hotels and their family grew to three with the addition of their oldest son, Kamal, followed by Kapil 5 years later. In 1985, the family of four immigrated to Los Angeles, California, where Madhu would open and operate the Yaas restaurant for years before switching careers to financial management. In 1996 the family moved to Atlanta, GA.
Madhu had a passion for travel, his family and his faith. He strongly held on to his Indian culture, volunteering at his local temple, enjoying Indian television and Bollywood films, and never missing out on an opportunity to fly ‘home’, or head to the local indian markets.
Madhu was known for his infectious smile, his compassion and his love for his family. He was also known for never missing an event, his ability to tell the same joke hundreds of times, his capacity to be every child’s favorite uncle. He would always go out of his way to help anyone with anything - he was someone that everyone knew they could count on.
Madhu is survived by his wife, Ila; his two sons, Kamal and Kapil; his brothers Anil and Dhiren, and extensive list of brother and sister-in-laws, nephews and nieces who will all have fond memories of their Bhai / Mama.
A memorial service and viewing will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 10AM to 12 noon at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory at 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064. All family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charitable cause in Madhu’s name.
