Lillian Hillhouse Castleberry, 93, of Marietta, passed away Saturday, August 10th, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, with Dr. Lee Mabry and Rev. Lee Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Castleberry was born in Cherokee County and moved to Atlanta, where she met her late husband, John Russell Castleberry. They raised their family in Grove Park in Atlanta, later relocating to Cobb County. Together, they founded Castleberry’s Meats in 1946. After Mr. Castleberry’s death in 1969, Lillian continued to operate the company until 1983. She was a member of Fortified Hills Baptist Church for 55 years, generously giving of her time and talents.
She was a much beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. In addition to her husband, Lillian is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dona Hillhouse, her brother, Richard Hillhouse, and her son, Jerry Russell Castleberry. She is survived by her son, Ned Castleberry and daughter-in-law Joanie of Canton, daughter, Alisa Thomas and son-in-law Barry of Marietta, daughter-in-law, Sara Castleberry Cloud, of Atlanta, granddaughters Amy Castleberry, and Natalie Thomas Haney and husband Zach, grandson Drew Thomas, and great-grandchildren Sevyn Tessier and Taylor Haney.
Flowers will be accepted, however, contributions may be made in her memory to MUST Ministries or WellStar Community Hospice.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 12, 2013, from 4pm-8pm.
