Laurence William Lines

Laurence (Larry) William Lines passed away in his sleep at his home early in the morning on May 7, 2023 at 90 years of age in Marietta, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 16th in the chapel of Marietta First Baptist Church at 148 Church Street, Marietta, Ga. Larry will lie in state from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, then the funeral will take place at 12:00 pm., with Dr. Bob Sena officiating. A graveside service will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga at 2:30 pm.

Laurence William Lines was born in Plainfield, New Jersey to Roscoe and Elizabeth Davis Lines on November 7, 1932. He became a Christian at First Baptist Church Balboa, the Republic of Panama, where he also met and married Bertha (Bertie) Cantu on January 20, 1962 in Balboa, Panama in the Panama Canal Zone. He served in the Army, New Jersey Army National Guard, Air Force and Georgia Air National Guard for a total of 35 years, 10 months and 29 days and was awarded several medals. He worked hard his whole life in countless roles as a member of the Teamsters Union for Roadway and Yellow Freight, a tree climber and trimmer, flying crew chief, munitions specialist, aircraft technician, dump truck driver, diesel mechanic, janitor, and lifeguard, to name a few, and did each job with equal pride and care. He served people with love and care at every encounter at work and in numerous volunteer positions as a part of Noonday Baptist Association Builders for Christ, Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief, F6 Unit, as a Kennestone Hospital volunteer, a church planter, and on countless mission trips to Central and South America, Europe, and all across the United States. He served in various church roles such as deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, RA’s leader and on many committees and was a licensed minister of the gospel. He was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church, Burnt Hickory Baptist Church and a founding member of Primera Iglesia Bautista de Marietta. But his highest joy was his family. There was nothing he would not do for them, from attending his children and grandchildren’s events to attending to his wife, whom he loved dearly. He was always available to meet a need or pitch in to help, no matter what. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Larry had a beautiful and full life and leaves a lasting impact of love and service felt globally.

He is preceded in death by Roscoe and Elizabeth Davis Lines (parents), Edward Lines (brother), Barbara Lines (sister), and Daniel Presley (grandson). He is survived by Bertha Cantu Lines (wife of 61 years), Melodie Presley (daughter), Dean Presley (son-in-law), Laurence Lines II (son), Christy Lines (daughter-in-law), and Eli Lines (son); nine grandchildren – Karyn Presley, Laura Lines, Katy Lines, Eli Lines II, Levie Lines, Esther Lines, Sam Lines, Susanna Lines, and William Lines; 5 great-grandchildren - Theo Ghann, Kent Clark, Nova Lines, Justin Lines, Waylon Lines; and countless other loving extended family members too vast to list here.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta. We wish to extend our sincere thanks to Wellstar Community Hospice for their excellent services and support throughout the last few months and each person who has been a part of our families’ lives through the years. You have each blessed us with your prayers, food, time, friendship and love. It will never be forgotten.
