On September 9, 2018, Kelly Larand Smith died at the age of 63, at Gwinnett Medical Center surrounded by friends and family. Kelly was born to Ruby Lee Smith and John Henry Smith on January 10, 1955. He grew up on a chicken farm owned by his parents in Dalton, Georgia. Kelly was the eldest of three brothers and two step-sisters. He enlisted in the United States Air Force when he was 19 and served between 1974 and 1979. Kelly graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Information and Computer Science, Databases and Systems. He worked in various companies throughout Georgia as a programmer and information technology consultant, including Ricoh Americas Corporation where he worked for 19 years. In 2015, he and his partner purchased a coffee shop called Coffee Mill located in Largo, Florida.
Kelly always lived life on his own terms, is remembered as an adventurous and active man who loved food, boating, and the beach. He is survived by his partner, Tracy Mallard, his two brothers, Ricky Alexander Smith and Buel David Gilliland, and his nieces and nephews, April Kristen Dobbs, Kathleen Ruby Gilliland, and Alexander Gregory Smith.
The memorial service for Kelly will be held at the West Cobb Funeral Home located at 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, Ga 30064 on Friday, September 21, 2018 starting at 7PM. The family will receive friends from 6PM- 7PM prior to the memorial service.
