Mrs. Kathryne E. Hinds was born September 13, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Roscoe Ellison and Rosa Lee Bush, who both preceded her in death. She died, on August 15, 2018 in Austell, Georgia. Mrs. Hinds' interment will occur at a later date, at Henderson-Powell Cemetery in Cuthbert, Georgia.
Raised in New York City, Kathryne graduated from Wadleigh High School in 1943. She was on the Honor Roll and was awarded a certificate for outstanding service in Student Government as an Officer of the Student Body. After graduation she went into the nursing field. She was enrolled as a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp from 2/1/44 until 1/31/47 at Harlem School of Nursing where she earned her license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. She then went to work at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in Bronx, New York. Later in her career, it was required for registered nurses to have a Bachelor of Science degree. Kathryne went back to school and obtained her degree in 1974 from Long Island University. She again became a student at Teacher's College of Columbia University in 1977 and in 1981 Kathryne went to work at Montefiore Medical Center, which is a teaching hospital, as a Nursing Administrator and stayed there until her retirement in 1990. Kathryne loved to travel and she and her son traveled all over the world. Upon retirement she moved to the family home in Cuthbert, GA. and became a member of Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church. Kathryne also actively assisted the Cuthbert Community through the local city council.
She was preceded in death by: her son, Glester Hinds, and her sister, Dorothy Carreras.
Mrs. Hinds is survived by: her niece, Tina Carreras; her nephews, Gino Carreras, and Greco Carreras, Sr.; her great nieces, Nicole Carreras and Jonelle Duncan; her great nephew, Greco Carreras, Jr.; many great nieces, great nephews, and numerous cousins.
