Joyce Ann Martin, age 74, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away September 3, 2020. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Marietta, GA. Interment will follow at Powder Springs Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powder Springs, GA.
After a childhood on the Lost Mountain farm of her parents, Joseph and Zera Mae Queen, she married James Thomas Martin in 1966, and they remained together until his death in 2016. She worked for Rich’s Department store until 1978, when she gave birth to her only child, Michelle, despite being told she could not have children. She returned to work at Publix supermarket as a receiver in the 90’s and remained there until her retirement.
Outside her family, Joyce’s greatest love was the outdoors. She inherited her father’s green thumb and was never happier than when she was working with her rosebushes or growing vegetables in her backyard garden. When the weather turned cold, she could be found at her crafting table, working on her scrapbooks or sewing. She’d usually round off the night with a good mystery book.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Martin of Powder Springs, her two brothers, Perry Queen of Austell and Bobby Queen of Atlanta, and one sister, Eunice Gamblin of Douglasville, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, GA.
