It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josie Ellen Lanquist (formerly Josie Ellen Backer) who passed away at the age of 92 on May 19, 2023. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 6, 1931 in Clinton, Iowa Josie lived a full and vibrant life. Her father Peter Julius Backer and mother Elsie Helen Matzen immigrated from the island of Fohr in Germany in the 1920's to Clinton, Iowa. She grew up in Clinton Iowa, graduated from Carthage College in 1953 and married Irv Lanquist in the same year. They were married for 69 1/2 years. She is survived by her husband (Irv Lanquist), son (Ronald Lanquist), daughter in law (Patricia Lanquist), and two grandchildren (Christopher Lanquist and Rachel Lanquist).
Josie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was known for her kindness and cherished her family. She liked sewing, crocheting, crosswords and homemaking.
Josie will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with her loved ones who have passed before her.
