John Bruce Shelkop, age 79 of Marietta, passed away June 6, 2015. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, June 11 in the Chapel of West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, Marietta. Interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton.
Mr. Shelkop was born in St. Joseph, MO, lived in Northern Virginia and then ultimately settled in Georgia in 1978. He joined the United States Army in 1955. He was part of the 127 Signal Battalion 7th Infantry Division. He served in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1958. After the Army, John then married the love of his life, Kathryn Riley on August 22, 1959. He was employed by Department of Defense, Defense Contract Management Command, as a Quality Assurance Director. He retired in 1991. Mr. Shelkop is preceded in death by his identical twin brother, James Shelkop; his loving wife, Kathryn Shelkop; and their son, Darrel Bruce Shelkop. Survivors include children: Christine and David McConnell, Canton; John D. and Cheryl Shelkop, Aragon; Kurt and Suzanne Shelkop, Powder Springs; 8 grandchildren: Nicholas McConnell, Savannah McConnell, Nicole Shelkop, Allison Shelkop, Erica Shelkop, Jennifer Owens, Kathleen Garrett and Ryan Garrett; 4 great grandchildren: Christina Owens, Rachelle Owens, Cody Owens and Kailynn Green.
