“Phil” Blanchard, age 84, of Mableton had his Homecoming on March 15, 2024. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at West Cobb Funeral Home, Marietta with Rev. Bill Rorie officiating.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Irene; his brother, Peter (Frances) Blanchard; two nephews Dominic Blanchard (three great nieces Ava, Matilda, Sophia) and Nicholas Blanchard (Sally); three cousins June Winterhaven, Gwen Dixon and Sandra Walsh; sisters-in-law Bernice Sena; Sharon Rentaria and Diana Delgado; stepmother Sara Delgado. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Hilda Blanchard; his step-father Les Bailey, his Aunt Ida Walsh and cousin Kevin Walsh.
Born in Hull, England, Phil began an apprenticeship after graduating from school with a manufacturing company. He then joined the British Navy. He received his degree in Bsc Mech.Engineering and was employed traveling and working in foreign countries. Years later with many troubles, he found himself in California at the Orange County Rescue Mission where he gave his life to the Lord. He also met his future wife, Irene, who was working there. With humble beginnings he moved on as a truck mechanic, but with innovation, he started his own business leading to positions in construction and manufacturing. In 1995 Phil chose to relocate with a position as plant manager in Atlanta. When that company sold, Phil did not want to return to California; he joined the team of and retired with The Home Depot.
Phil very much enjoyed working, volunteering, traveling with his wife, Irene; cooking, singing, writing, and watching Youtube videos--especially snooker champion Ronnie O’Sullivan. His hero was Sir Winston Churchill, and he very much enjoyed reading, particularly subjects on history and WWII. He called his lawn rider his “gasoline therapy” and his favorite treat was a Greek Gyro at Pasta Bella.
He loved the Lord, his family, friends, and his best friend being his wife of 43 years, Irene. He gave his life to God and his wish was for others to do the same.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial Book Cards will be available at the service.
Flower gifts will be lovingly received, but please also consider donating to the Samaritan's Purse: International Emergency Relief
