On February 1, 2023, John Steven “Steve” Kight, Jr., went Home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By his side was the love of his life, his wife and best friend, Heather. Steve is survived by his mother, Ilamay Kight, two sons – James (Christina) Kight and Samuel Kight, three daughters – Shelby Kight, Jordan (Giovannie) Jordan, and Julie Mitchell (Michael Farinelli). He was Pawpaw to four grandchildren – Isabella Jordan, Jeremiah Jordan, Ariana Jordan, and Autumn “Gracie” Kight. He is preceded in death by his father, John Steven Kight, Sr.
Born on November 4, 1973, Steve was a 1991 graduate of McEachern High School. After graduation, he served in the US Army from 1992-1996. Steve married Heather (Murphy) Kight on November 17, 2011, at Kennesaw First Baptist Church. He worked for various companies throughout his lifetime, but the traits that defined him most were his love for God and his passion for sharing the Gospel to as many people as he could. In 2019, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Pastoral Ministry with a minor in Biblical Studies. An ordained minister, Steve loved to preach and joyfully accepted any opportunity to do so. However, his biggest testimony was his life as loving husband, father, son, Pawpaw, and friend. When called upon, he would lend a hand or an ear to help people. He was a true wordsmith and loved sharing stories from his past. As one friend so aptly worded, “The world without Steve Kight in it just seems weird.” He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on February 10, 2023, at Smyrna Christian Church, 910 Concord Road SE, Smyrna, GA 30080. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to K9s for Warriors at k9sforwarriors.org, or to one of the many organizations helping Veterans.
