Joe Herbert Slay Jr., age 81, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Olive Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Cheek officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Marietta. He will lie in state at the church 1 hour prior to the service.
Mr. Slay was a self employed House Mover and business owner of House Movers inc. for many years. When he retired he became an avid collector of Model A Ford’s. He enjoyed many years traveling cross country with his wife Barbara in their 1930 Four door, as well as all over the state of Georgia making friends and never refusing to help a stranger in need. He was a man of faith who loved and served the lord. His “no need to worry, god will take care of it” attitude is one that could be learned from. He was a wonderful Husband, Dad and Pah as well as friend to so many.
He is Survived by his wife of sixty years, Barbara Slay; 2 Sons, Eddie Slay, Marietta, GA, and Doug (Kelly) Slay, Hiram, GA; 5 Grandchildren, Derrick Slay, Dana Brannan, David Slay, Dillard Slay, and Joseph Slay.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5pm until 8pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
