Joanne M. Septer (formerly Jacobie), age 85, of Marietta, Georgia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to so many, passed away quietly at her residence on Sunday, May 26, following a long illness.
Joanne was born in Albany, NY on August 15, 1938. She enjoyed playing cards and board games and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She moved with her husband, Dick, a life-long employee of Shell Oil Company, and her children from Nassau, NY, to Windsor, CT, Lake Mohawk, NJ and finally landed in Marietta, GA. She was a homemaker in every sense of the word, including interior painting, decorating, sewing, hanging wallpaper, gardening, and caring for her family at each home they resided in. Joanne enjoyed many hobbies, including painting with acrylics and numerous crafts.
Joanne is survived by her loving family including three daughters, Kim Adams (Leon), Tina Redd (Michael), Patti Septer (Barry Ray), all of Marietta; four grandchildren, Audra Rickman (Jeremy) of Rome, GA, Emily Adams of Atlanta, Ben Adams of Marietta, Caroline Redd of Atlanta; great granddaughter, Hannah Rickman of Rome; sister-in-law, Nancy James of Saranac Lake, New York; nephew, Vernon James (Angie) and children; niece, Susan James; nephew, David Landon, all of upstate New York; and nephew, Michael Landon (Karen) of Florida. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Richard (Dick) Septer, grandson, Matthew Redd of Marietta, GA, brother Jack (Jan) Jacobie of Florida, and sister, Michelle (Bob) Landon of Nassau, NY.
Special thanks to her personal care givers Olu and Letitia for their dedication, compassion and kindness in caring for her and to their thoughtful supervisor Freda. Also, thanks to Katherine and Lauren of Agape Hospice for their care and support and to the wonderful staff of Sterling Estates West.
The family will celebrate Joanne’s life on Monday, June 10 at West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Rd, Marietta, GA. Friends are invited to visit between 11:00 a.m. and noon, and attend the service in the Chapel at noon.
Friends wishing to remember Joanne may make a contribution to the Redd Readers in loving memory of Matthew Redd, Lovinggood Middle School, 3825 Luther Ward Road, Powder Springs, Georgia 30127. Redd Readers is an afterschool club established to encourage the joy of recreational reading.
